This is an official Core Skills® endorsed by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT)

Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFCT) Core Skills Training presents a set of four, two-day workshops and is designed to follow the EFCT Externship. Core Skills offers an in-depth opportunity to develop the skills essential to the practice of EFCT. Each segment includes instruction, role play, observation of video, and consultation.

Core Skills 2 - February 10/11, 2025 - Tango in Stage 1: Steps 3-4 De-Escalation

Core Skills 3 - March 24/25, 2025 - Tango in Stage 2: Steps 5-7 Withdrawer Re-Engagement

Core Skills 4 - April 14/15, 2025 - Tango in Stage 2: Steps 5-7 Pursuer Softening

Mondays: 8:00am - 4:00pm, Tuesdays: 8:00am - 3:00pm (MST (the time in Colorado/Alberta))

The Training Team

Robert Allan, PhD, is an EFT Trainer, Supervisor, and Therapist based in Denver, Colorado. He is a Senior Lecturer and program lead for the child, adolescent, and family MA program at University of Roehampton in London. Robert has helped train and supervise therapists and students in Emotionally Focused Therapy across Canada, the US, and Great Britain.
Robert’s interest in EFT extends to his research work where he has explored cultural adaptations of EFT. He is currently the co-Principal Investigator and supervising the Denver site for the first clinical trial of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). Robert completed his PhD at Dalhousie University, he is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Colorado, and an Approved Supervisor with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Robert is a warm, knowledgeable, and engaged trainer with a passion for helping people learn EFT.

Sarah McConnell is a certified EFT Therapist, Supervisor, and Trainer who has a private practice in Derbyshire, UK. She trained in Gestalt psychotherapy prior to training in EFT in Houston, Texas. Sarah was one of the therapists involved in research in Houston using EFT couples therapy with the parents of autistic children . Sarah is a co-Director of the British EFT Centre and develops strategy for the organisation. Prior to becoming a therapist, Sarah was a global vice president of training for a corporate multi-national company. Sarah leads the UK training in EFFT and is part of the UK team developing EFIT in the UK. She is passionate and excited about extending EFIT to new populations across the world.

Lukas Schafer, M.A., LMFT, LPC will be the clinical lead for this round of Core Skills. He is an ICEEFT Certified EFIT and EFCT therapist and Supervisor in Training. Lukas has worked in the mental health field since 2008, including worj=k with with teens and families in wilderness therapy. He has played a role in research expanding the application of EFT to work with individuals (EFIT). This work evolved to include supporting therapists at the group practice he co-founded, Lumen Therapy Services. He is a board member of the Denver Community for EFT and as a Core Member of Join the Reckoning, a group dedicated to dismantling oppressive systems in mental health.

Lukas is currently focusing on his supervision skills, developing community, and continuing to explore his own humanness. Having lived in the Mountain West his entire life, Lukas loves spending his free time exploring the natural world, enjoying music, and celebrating connection with his partner, son, and community.

Helene Igwebuike is a certified EFT Therapist, Supervisor, and Trainer and a co-founder of the British EFT Centre. She maintains a private practice in London.

Helene has many years of experience working with couples and individuals and of teaching EFT for couples and individuals. She is a passionate engaging teacher who brings the EFCT and EFIT model vividly alive to absolutely transform therapists’ way of working with couples and individuals.

Helene identifies as mixed race of both Nigerian and Danish heritage and Bi-sexual. She lives in London, United Kingdom. Helene has done ground-breaking research on seeding attaching and growing attachment security in couples at Bath Spa University.
